As we mark National Hazing Awareness Week, we’re excited to share a new chapter for StopHazing: HazingInfo is joining StopHazing.

For more than two decades, StopHazing has advanced hazing prevention through research, education, policy, and practice. HazingInfo has built an invaluable public resource for accessing information about hazing incidents and institutional transparency at colleges and universities nationwide.

Bringing these efforts together creates an opportunity to strengthen the connections among research, prevention, transparency, and accountability—and to make information and resources more accessible to prevent hazing.

Transparency is part of prevention

Effective hazing prevention requires more than awareness. It requires accurate information, accountability, and a clear understanding of where hazing occurs, how it takes shape, and the conditions that allow it to persist.

The Stop Campus Hazing Act has also created new requirements for colleges and universities to disclose hazing incidents and provide prevention and awareness programs. These changes create an important opportunity to make information about hazing and prevention more accessible and useful.

HazingInfo’s focus on public access to hazing incident data and institutional transparency complements StopHazing’s research and prevention expertise. Together, we can help ensure that information does more than document what happened—it can help inform what happens next.

This work is especially timely as StopHazing and the Hazing Prevention Research Lab lead the National Study of Student Hazing, the first major update in 18 years to landmark national research on student hazing. As new research and sources of public data become available, connecting knowledge with real-world information and action will be increasingly important.

We’re excited to welcome HazingInfo into the StopHazing community and to build on the relationships, knowledge, and commitment that both organizations bring to this work.

This partnership is another step forward in our shared work to make accurate information, evidence-informed prevention, and meaningful accountability more accessible—and to strengthen our collective capacity to prevent hazing before it occurs.
