Campus Hazing Policies
A campus hazing policy defines hazing, outlines prohibited behaviors, and establishes clear procedures for reporting, responding to, and preventing hazing within the institution. Anti-hazing policies should not only prohibit harmful behavior, but also help shape healthy group behaviors that promote inclusive campus communities and support ethical student leadership, well-being, and belonging.
The Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA), passed in December 2024, requires all campus annual security reports (i.e., “ASRs” or “Clery reports”) to include two policy statements related to hazing. Under the Clery Act, a policy statement is a summary of the institution’s current policies or procedures; therefore, campuses must develop policies that contain this information.
