Hazing prevention is entering a new era — and StopHazing & HazingInfo are joining forces to help lead it.
HazingInfo.org is merging with StopHazing to build a comprehensive hazing accountability initiative connecting research, prevention, transparency, and timely action to accelerate progress toward ending hazing.
The partnership integrates StopHazing’s globally recognized research, practice, and advocacy expertise with HazingInfo’s consumer-focused data, transparency tools, and timely reporting.
Together, we will create a stronger bridge between what we know about hazing, what campuses can do to prevent it, and what students, families, policymakers, and the public need to hold institutions accountable for hazing.
The result is a powerful research-to-action pipeline where research strengthens hazing prevention and transparency, and timely data identifies trends and accountability gaps.
At this pivotal national moment in hazing prevention, the partnership turns knowledge into action that creates safer campus experiences for students.
Building an integrated national platform to end hazing
The hazing prevention landscape is changing fast. For years, hazing prevention has focused on awareness campaigns, educational programming, and responding to tragic incidents.
That work remains essential. But now there is new momentum to prevent hazing and increase institutional accountability:
- For the first time, a 2024 federal law requires campuses to disclose hazing incidents, create hazing policies, and use evidence-informed prevention and awareness programs.
- The new National Study of Student Hazing, led by StopHazing and our partner, the Hazing Prevention Research Lab, promises critical insights into where, how, and why hazing happens and new tools to prevent it.
- Technology and newly accessible public data on hazing through HazingInfo lets students, families, researchers, journalists, and policymakers find hazing information that wasn’t previously available.
- States continue to strengthen their hazing laws and reporting requirements.
These developments create an opportunity to move beyond reacting to hazing incidents toward a coordinated national system of research, prevention, transparency, and accountability.
About StopHazing and HazingInfo
StopHazing.org was established in 1998 by leading hazing researcher Dr. Elizabeth Allan. For nearly three decades, StopHazing has helped build the scientific knowledge base to understand the nature and extent of hazing and develop effective hazing prevention practices, designed to shift culture and build healthy communities.
StopHazing’s mission is to promote safe and inclusive school, campus, and organizational environments through research, resource-sharing, and the development of data-driven strategies for hazing prevention and the promotion of positive and inclusive group climates.
HazingInfo.org helps students and families make informed decisions about joining campus groups while increasing transparency and holding colleges, universities, and student groups accountable for hazing.
HazingInfo was launched in 2023 as the nation’s first comprehensive database of college hazing incidents by the parents of Sam Martinez, a Washington State University freshman who was killed by college hazing in 2019. Jolayne Houtz and Héctor Martinez partnered with StopHazing and the University of Washington Information School to create a new online resource for students and families seeking information on hazing incidents, trends, and analysis.
Together, StopHazing and HazingInfo are working toward a future where research reveals what works, prevention puts that knowledge into practice, transparency makes hazing visible, and accountability drives change.

Both organizations will retain their distinct identities and audiences while integrating operations, strategic planning, fundraising, and communications. This allows each organization to build on its strengths while expanding their combined reach and impact.
HazingInfo will continue to focus on hazing transparency and reaching college students and their families with information and data about campus hazing. The HazingInfo blog, along with the monthly newsletter and social media platforms, will provide timely insights and analysis to help guide students, families, campus leaders, journalists, and policymakers.
StopHazing will continue to lead research on hazing and its prevention, develop prevention strategies for schools, colleges and universities, and inform the public. Its work includes the long-running Hazing Prevention Consortium, a research-to-practice initiative supporting campus-wide hazing prevention, and its StandUp to Hazing training series for students, faculty, staff, coaches, and advisors. StopHazing will continue its longstanding prevention initiatives, programs, outreach, policy advocacy, and more.

The country is at a critical inflection point in hazing prevention.
New federal transparency and prevention requirements, stronger state laws, growing public demand for accountability, expanding access to hazing data, and the launch of the new National Study of Student Hazing are creating opportunities that did not exist previously.
Bringing StopHazing and HazingInfo together now allows us to capitalize on that momentum — connecting rigorous research with real-world data and translating both into practical tools, public understanding, and meaningful change.
